Hitting upon a touchy subject, you can probably tell, I am not in this for the kudos. The T.V show “who wants to be a millionaire” raises the hackles on my neck for various reasons. Before going any further, for the purposes of this article 'psychosis' is defined as being out of touch with reality to a point where one acts with little or no regard for the law or morality While I have no real problem with the concept of pitting someones own personal knowledge base against a computer, and what is essentially a questionnaire game show, just the title of the program alone seems enough of a draw card to get people to watch it.
And this is truly the psychosis of greed at work in its most primitive form. When a catch phrase like that “who wants to be a millionaire” comes along I have to start asking myself some serious questions, because my own ears prick up as soon as I hear it. My specialty is creating and designing profitable, workable business systems. I do it well and naturally get a little upset when a 23 year old person can swander onto a game show and win, in 60 minutes what it has taken me most of my life to accumulate. However, the fact remains, we do get sucked into the hype. When it comes to how to create wealth there looks to be certain ways people can go about doing that, and make huge sums of of money, fairly easily. It seems they are capable of doing so at what most of us consider to be lightning speed. But, more often than not, that is exactly what it is. Just giving the “appearance” of being able to do it easily. When I hear of, or see, this phenomenon occurring and a person being famed because of their wealth, I have to keep remembering that what I am usually looking at is the culmination of at least 20 years work. Now this is very important You see, we get to see the end product, not from where these guys started out. I am sure Donald Trump, Kerry Packer, or Bill Gates could all tell you the same thing. Wealth is not like the genesis model of the bible. It doesn't happen over night, or in six days and resting on the seventh! Wealth is something that gets created slowly, over time, and lots of it. The only other ways to become wealthy, that I know of are, theft, fraud, being gifted it, bequeathed it or winning first prize in a states lottery. We suffer the psychosis when we get greedy. Greed makes us think it can happen fast. Greed blinds us to reality but in itself is not what makes us start dreaming about how to create wealth. It is one of the primary the drivers, the thing that pushes us to become wealthy. In a way it is healthy, but not to the extent where we become blinded by it. When that happens we are simply obsessed by a notion. Tools to prevent this from happening are a sound business plan, getting very very generous to the point of giving away lots and lots of money and a strong work ethic.
